CSA Your Way to Freshness

Locavores are folks who love eating fresh, local food that hasn’t been transported long distances to arrive at their table. Farmer’s markets (in season) and growing your own are two ways to eat locally. Another keen idea is to join a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture). The idea is to provide payment upfront ($300-750 depending on region) so the farmer has funds to plant and provide enough food through the season. Then, weekly, you pick up your basket of freshness and meals become exciting again! While many CSA’s may have opted out of the arduous USDA certification process, most do farm organically, avoiding pesticides and chemical fertilizers – ask them. (more…)

Dim All the Lights, Sweet Dahlin’

Having trouble sleeping? Tried all the latest products and tips, spiced milk, valerian root and melatonin, even prescription medications and still can’t get a good night’s sleep?

Create a den of darkness. Cut the lights – all of them. Yes, all of them. Our electronic world invites disruption during the night. Even though their output seems small, it’s enough to disturb sleep. (more…)

Eggscellent Choice!

Eggs are by far one of the best proteins a body could entertain. Easy, versatile and tasty, they create an array of ideas from entress to add-ons, side dishes and breakfast fare. If you care about the environment, you’re tendency is toward cage-free, natural or organic, right? Thought so……

But, did you know, cage-free might not mean what you and I envision in the sugar-plum fairyland spaces in our imaginations? (more…)
