Tuesday, December 29th, 2009Locavores are folks who love eating fresh, local food that hasn’t been transported long distances to arrive at their table. Farmer’s markets (in season) and growing your own are two ways to eat locally. Another keen idea is to join a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture). The idea is to provide payment upfront ($300-750 depending on region) so the farmer has funds to plant and provide enough food through the season. Then, weekly, you pick up your basket of freshness and meals become exciting again! While many CSA’s may have opted out of the arduous USDA certification process, most do farm organically, avoiding pesticides and chemical fertilizers – ask them. (more…)
